As parents , we've devoted at least 20 years of our lives
focusing on our children. Now they're moving on, and our lives no
longer revolve around their daily existence. For many of us, coping
with an empty nest is not always easy. Imagine how much easier it
would be to make this life transition with others who are
experiencing the same thing! Everyone needs community. A community
to support us when things are tough and to celebrate our successes
as we grow. Research has shown that those who have a community or
support group sail through transitions and excel at moving on to
new beginnings.
Empty Nexters is a community founded to help people like you
connect on important issues for this shift in our life, and
discover exciting new possibilities now that life has opened up in
whole new ways. It's also about viewing life changes as something
positive, and giving us a new perspective so that we can rediscover
our purpose and passions for the next phase of our lives.
My
name is Joan Sherlock. I'm the mom of three wonderful grown
daughters who have been the focus of my life for 23 years. I was
home with them for the first few years, then returned to work for
the last twenty years working in high technology marketing in
Silicon Valley, California. Now that my daily routine doesn't
revolve around them, I've seized this opportunity in my life to
follow my passion and become a career and life coach,
helping others find their purpose in life and help them achieve new
goals.
Some of my friends have been stay-at-home moms or dads who have
focused entirely on being there for their kids, while others have
worked full- or part-time. Some have had a partner to share the
experience with, others have tackled it alone. One thing these
groups have in common is that they are profoundly effected when
their youngest goes away to college or moves out. They often
reexamine their life, their purpose and what they want their next
life chapter to be like.
What is EmptyNexters.com really about? It's about you! If you
have ideas that aren't addressed, I hope to hear from you. This is
your site, and your community - it's truly about you and where you
want to go with your life.
Take the first step, become a Nexter.

With love,
Joan Sherlock
